Home to some 200,000 people, Korogocho is a one of the biggest slums in Nairobi, Kenya. To address high rates of rape and violent assaults, a group of women, including grandmothers, got together to learn self-defense. With some American supporters, they started "I Am Worth Defending-Africa." They now offer self defense training for women, children, and awareness programs for men.

Washington DC-based instructor Carol Middleton has been teaching martial arts and self defense since 1968. She currently directs DC Self Defense Karate Association, DC IMPACT, and Krav Maga DC. She shares her experience training the "I am Worth Defending-Africa" group.
