Eco-Neighborhoods and Housing Innovation

Can housing be both affordable and environmentally sustainable? Can housing design integrate social classes and account for the needs of communities?
Every year the Building and Social Housing Foundation gives a World Habitat Award to innovators in housing. One of the 2010 winners was Ekostaden Augustenborg (Ekostaden means ‘eco-neighborhood’) in Malmo, Sweden, an area that is home to a large immigrant community, including many Iraqi refugees. Trevor Graham is the head of Sustainable Lifestyles and Consumer Affairs for the city of Malmo.
