After donating his instruments, the maestro visits them often and plays them back to life. Courtesy of Dany Mitzman.

Maestro Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini is an organist, musicologist and collector of ancient instruments. His collection boasts an astonishingly beautiful selection of pianos and their precursors:  spinets, harpsichords, clavichords and virginals.

Last year, the 81-year-old maestro donated his lifetime’s collection of 70 musical instruments to a new museum created specially for them, the Collezione Tagliavini. He took our reporter Dany Mitzman to see — and hear — his treasure trove.
