Surfing in China

China is one of the world’s largest manufacturers and exporters of surfboards, but there isn’t much of a local market yet. Still, with one of world’s longest coastlines, there’s plenty of room for surfers—and the growing middle class means a potential market. Tropical Hainan Island, often marketed as ‘China’s Hawaii’, is best positioned to become China’s surfing hot spot.
But surfing is still new or unknown to many people here. Jennifer Dunn brings us the story.
